II Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
It is a new year. A new year full of expectations and surprises. This is the year that could be the start of your walk with Christ or a renewed walk with Christ. This is the year that could be the jump start that your faith needs to have.
God created humans. That much is recorded in Genesis. Humans then turned their backs on God. Then a long time after, Jesus came to Earth in the form of a baby and then grew up, ministered to His people, died on a cross, and was resurrected and ascended to Heaven. With His death on the cross, people were able to be recreated by God. Reborn by the blood of Jesus. Made new. Made fresh and clean, free from sin. The sin and death from this life are gone. Jesus intercedes on our part to God and God sees only Jesus’ life when He looks at us.
This year is a new start. If you are already a Christian, this could be the year that you go out and minister more to unbelievers. This is the year that you give more money to missions or the church. With a fresh start, you can accomplish more with God than without Him. If you are not a Christian, 2017 could be your start in Jesus. It could be your time to turn your life over to God. Become the person that God wants you to be.
Do you want a fresh start? Be clean and new? With sin, you are dirty. Not like dirt that can be washed off or cleaned by a washing machine or a shower/bathtub. Dirty, as in God can’t be around you, dirty. God and sin cannot be together. This is why we need Jesus’ death on the cross and the blood of Jesus to wash the sin away so that we can be with God and God can be with us. Jesus’ life and death is the cleaning that we need. Jesus’ life and death is the renewal that we need.
Everyone likes new things. New things have a fresh smell and are clean. Let us be clean and fresh in the name of Jesus. Let us be new in Christ. Let us ring in the new year with God on our side. Jesus is Lord. God is our Father. Let us proclaim His glory and dominion as long as we have breath.
Thank You for the year 2016. Let us have a renewed mind and spirit as we enter 2017. Let us reflect on all that we have to be thankful for and hopeful of the times to come. Thank You always for sending Your Son from Heaven to Earth to die and then having Him ascend back to Heaven to prepare a place for us. We do not deserve all that You give us. Thank you for salvation. Thank You for all that You give us daily.
In your life-giving, sin freeing, and saving name we pray,
