Isaiah 40:31, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”

The eagle.  A beautiful, majestic bird with excellent eyesight and great flying skills.  To have wings like eagles would mean going to new heights and seeing the world from another perspective.

I remember running track and field in high school and all the training that was required.  I had to build up endurance to run the events that I was in.  It was tough and took a lot of time to have the strength to run efficiently and proficiently.  In Isaiah, with the strength of God, we will be able to run without getting tired and walk without passing out.  This is not referring to a track meet, but is referring to life.  This strength from God is required to run the race of life.

Life has its series or trials and pitfalls.  Life can get tiresome and make you weary.  With the renewing of God, life becomes better.  This does not mean that there will not be problems in life, disease, or even death.  With God, life has a renewed purpose.  Instead of just living to live, you live for God and spread God’s joy and love.  Life is a race, not a sprint.  I know this sounds cliché but it is true.  Sprints are very short but marathons are what life is.  Life is a preparation for what is to come.  Heaven awaits all those who live a life that honors God.

Weakness is a condition of the human body.  The human body needs rest and sleep in order to recharge.  Without rest and sleep, the body will fail and will eventually die from exhaustion.  The strength that God offers will renew the body.  You will still need rest and sleep; God understands this (He made you after all).  With a spiritual renewal, God helps His people complete tasks.  He helps us to preach His Word.  He helps us to continue on in the faith.

Spiritual renewal.  This can be yours if you ask God for it.  He will grant this to you.  God’s plan for us is far larger than even we know.  Run the race for God.  Live for God in all that you do.  Your reward is not in this world.  Your reward will be in Heaven, waiting for you.  The race run for God will result in a life that is eternal and spent with God the Father.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your strength.  We need You to continue to help us daily.  We cannot live without You guiding us and taking care of us.  You help us to not be weary and lose hope.  We know that You alone are worthy of our attention and I pray that You renew the minds of all the people that see this.  Thank You for sending Your Son to die on the cross for the removal of sins.  Thank You for Your gift that awaits us in Heaven.

In Your renewing and strengthening name we pray,

Amen
