Narrow or Wide Gate?

Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.  Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

Finding God can be like a word search or a picture search puzzle.  It is so difficult that you just want to give up if you don’t Him right away.  God makes the way to Him.  It is not always plain and clear how to find the way to God.  It is also not always plain to stay on the path.  God does promise that finding the narrow (difficult) path and gate will lead to life.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6).  Follow Jesus and you find the path and gate to God the Father.  Jesus died on the cross to prepare a place for us in Heaven.  He ascended to Heaven in front of His disciples and told them where He was going.  It is no secret that God and Jesus live in Heaven.  Knowing and doing are two different things though.  To follow God, there must be action as well as knowledge.  The knowledge is of who God is and the doing is accepting God for who He is and what He has done for us.

The flip side to this is that there is a wide path.  This path leads away from God.  This path is a wide for a reason.  Lots of people are on this path.  In fact, everyone starts on the wide path.  Only through forgiveness from sin and a life devoted to God does someone get to the narrow path.

You need the Light in order to find the narrow path.  The wide path is easy to find.  Even in darkness, someone can find and stay on the wide path.  The Light, which is Christ Jesus, shines on the path that leads to life.  Choose the narrow path.  Choose the Light.  Choose Life.

Heavenly Father,

Guide my feet and the feet of all Your creation to the narrow path.  Help us to continue to listen to You always.  Your ways are always right.  Your ways are righteous and pure.  Our ways will always lead to destruction.  Your way leads to life.  Life eternal with You and Your Son, Jesus.  You are always there for us, even when times get difficult.  Thank You for Your constant help in times of storm and in the times when everything is calm.  You alone are worthy of our attention and our full submission to You always.

In your path-giving, life-saving name we pray,
