Treasure beyond Measure

Matthew 6:19-21, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

For all the wealth in the world, there is a treasure that is worth far more than gold or silver or platinum or diamonds.  This treasure is in Heaven.  This treasure is eternal life with God the Father.  Jesus is the treasure that far exceeds the trillions of dollars that are available in the world.  He is far above the world’s possessions.  Mark 8:36, “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”

The Parable of the Rich Fool

Luke 12:16-21, Then He (Jesus) spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully.  And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’  So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods.  And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”’  But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’  “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

For all the possessions in the world, you wil exit the world the same way that it is entered.  With nothing.  Even with a fancy casket, fine clothes, and all the possessions laid next to the body, the dead cannot take anything to the next life.  Just as a baby comes into the world naked, a body will decompose and be a pile of bones, without anything on them.

The gift that God gives is, as mentioned before, eternal life.  This does not come in a store.  It does not come with fancy wrapping paper or a big bow on it.  It comes from Jesus’ death on the cross.  His death is life-giving.  Seems counter-intuitive.  That is what confounds the masses.  In death, Jesus took the physical death of humanity and made it null and void.  His blood spilled for many gives life.  His blood covers our sin.  It takes the blackness of our lives and makes it white.  We are clean because Jesus got “dirty.”  “Dirty” with our sin.

Do you want treasure?  Do you want the greatest gift ever?  Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior today.  Without delay.  He is worth so much to you.  He may not make you rich in this life, but your riches will limitless in the next.  Jesus went to prepare a place for us in Heaven complete with a mansion.  Oh how great and glorious that will be!  Every day, we will be able to be in Heaven with Jesus.  That is where I want to be.  Will you come with me?  I pray I see you there.

Heavenly Father,

I am so grateful that you gave us a treasure.  Not gold or other things that will break or go away.  You gave us what we need: Jesus, Your son who is greater than all the Earth’s things.  I pray that the world sees You as a prize possession.  Something that everyone wants.  The crème de la crème.  The very best.  You can be that and more to us if we only believe and ask You.  You give what we need every day.  Thank you.  You are truly an awesome God.  You are my treasure.  You are who I seek.  You are who I crave.
