Full Armor of God: Head to Toe: Shield

Ephesians 6:10-18, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

Faith.  Faith to defend against what is wrong and faith to know what is right to defend against what is wrong.

The shield can be just as important as the sword.  In war, a good defense pairs with a good offense.  The shield defends against the sword, arrows from archers and other attacks.

The shield of faith defends against what the evil one will try to convince you of.  With a foundation that is grounded in God and in the knowledge of the Bible, your shield of faith will be as big as you need it to be.  God has never changed so your faith in Him should not dependent on God, but dependent on you.  God is bigger than any of your problems, any of your worries, and especially bigger than you.  As your faith grows, your defense grows with it.

Do you have faith?  Faith in the unseen?  God is real, rest assured.  Allow your faith to grow in God and God will keep you from harm.  A strong faith in God repels Satan.  Use the example of Jesus in the wilderness.  He repelled the devil by quoting Scripture and being bold.  We can do the same with God beside us.  All we have to do is have faith.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for faith.  Faith that protects us from the evil powers that are at work in the world.  We need You and love You so much, God.  We pray that You will reside in our hearts and be our defense against all attacks.  We cannot do this on our own.  With You for us, no one can stand against us.  You are truly an awesome God.

In Your faithful, loving and truthful name we pray,
